Accessibility Statement
Our goal of meeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA, how we test for it, what we know falls short, and how to tell us about a barrier.
Our commitment
Nonprofits use Bless Events to run events, sell tickets, take donations and hold auctions. Anyone should be able to register, give or bid, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or voice control.
Our goal is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), on every page we build.
How we test
Every change to the app runs through an automated test suite before it ships. Part of that suite checks accessibility:
- Each component in our design system has a preview page, and the test suite runs an automated accessibility audit (axe) on every one of them.
- Our system tests, which click through the app the way a person would, run the same audit on the pages they visit.
- We check text color contrast against the WCAG AA ratio of 4.5 to 1.
- We check that each page has one main heading and that page regions are labeled, so screen reader users can find their way around.
Automated testing does not catch everything. A tool can tell that an image has a text alternative, but not whether that text makes sense. Some barriers only show up when a person uses the page with assistive technology.
Known limitations
We are working on these areas:
- Older admin screens. Some screens in the organization dashboard were built before our current design system. We are moving them to the new system one page at a time. Until a screen moves, it may not meet every part of our goal.
- Content added by organizations. See the next section.
If you find a barrier that is not listed here, please tell us.
Content that organizations add
Each organization using Bless Events adds its own content: event descriptions, images, logos, ticket names, custom questions, and files such as PDFs. The organization is responsible for making that content accessible. For example, it should give each image a useful text description and make sure any PDF it links to can be read with a screen reader.
We cannot check or fix everything an organization writes or uploads.
If the barrier is in an organization's content, you can contact that organization directly. You can also tell us, and we will pass your report to the organization.
Report a barrier
If something on Bless Events is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us. Email accessibility email.
It helps if you include:
- the web address of the page;
- what you were trying to do;
- what went wrong;
- the browser and any assistive technology you use, if you are comfortable sharing it.
Our goal is to reply within accessibility response days business days. If you need to register, buy a ticket or give before we can fix the problem, tell us. We will work with you and the organization to find another way to complete it.
Changes to this statement
We update this statement as we fix problems and as our testing changes.
